Jon Colon born Jonathan Colon Rosario or "Jon Colon" is a Puerto-Rican born cellist, raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania who started playing cello through an El Sistema inspired program. He has played under the baton of conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Mutti, Marin Alsop, Paolo Bortolameolli, Amit Peled, Thomas Wilkins, Leon Botstein, John Rutter, Greg Funfgeld, Lee Reynolds, Lina González-Granados and Roderick Cox. He has also toured/collaborated with a wide variety of artists and ensembles such as We The Kings, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Ballet, The Ballroom Thieves, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Allentown Band, the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA), the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Esperanza Spalding, the King’s Singers, Derrick Hodge, Michelle Cann, Chelsea Greene, Luis Resto, Emmet Cahill, Jorge Glem, Thomas Mesa, Dina Vainshtein, Dashon Burton, and many more. Jon has also spoken at conferences including YOLA National at Home, NIMAN National Pathways Summit, and the YOLA National Symposium. He's also collaborated with members of the Cleveland String Quartet, Borromeo String Quartet, Tesla String Quartet, Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, A Far Cry, Roomful of Teeth, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
He played principal positions and participated in the Edinburgh International Festival, the YOLA National Festival, MidAmerica Productions, New England Music Camp, the Tuning Into Change Orchestra, Luzerne Music Camp directed by Elizabeth Pitcairn, among many others. Jon has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, the Fisher Center, The Greek Theatre, The Barbican Centre, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Symphony Center, Usher Hall, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Boston Opera House, Jordan Hall, and Tynecastle Park, in places like London, Scotland, Greece, and the U.S. He has played in masterclasses for Paul Katz, Steven Doane, Zlatomir Fung, and Guy Johnston.
Jon has also done a lot of work with organizations dealing with social change in music. Through this work, he's collaborated with organizations such as YOLA National Institute, Project 440, El Sistema Lehigh Valley, Sistema Scotland, Boston BEAM, Chineke Foundation, Dudamel Foundation, NIMAN, among many others. Through that, he’s collaborated with artists such as Joseph Conyers, Hilary Hahn, and ThatViolaKid. Jon is a pupil of Jameson Platte, Robert Demaine, Mark Churchill, and Alan Stepansky. Jon has also been featured on media outlets such as Telemundo, Euro News, The Morning Call, and others. He’s gotten to perform many world premieres from composers such as Sean O’Boyle and Roberto Sierra. Jon has attended the prestigious Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, New England Conservatory, and The Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
